Exercises and courses
Exercises, or spiritual exercises, are a form of spiritual formation aimed at deepening the spiritual life through silence, meditation and prayer. It is a group stay of several days, led by an "Examiner", usually a clergyman, who through his lectures helps the participants to discover or improve their spiritual life. The aim of the Exercises is to have an inner experience of God's presence, to discern obstacles on the spiritual path and to find one's place in the world.
Origins: the most famous are the so-called "Ignatian Exercises" after St Ignatius of Loyola, who was most responsible for their spread.
Participants: Catholics and non-Catholics can participate.
Recommendations.
The Holy Mountain has been hosting retreats and courses since 1990, which is why the hostel where participants stay and gather for lectures is called the Exercises House. Although it is a simple accommodation in single or double rooms with shared bathroom facilities in the corridor, the atmosphere of the most famous Marian pilgrimage site in Central Bohemia and the quietness in the middle of the Brda forests make our Exercises a powerful spiritual experience.
For 2026, there is a varied range of topics and leaders chosen from across the spectrum of Catholic spiritualities. You are sure to choose among them those who will best suit you and your spiritual needs.
Accommodation and full board are included in the price of each course. The price for each course is fixed.
