What will you discover in the museum?
Jesuits in the Czech Lands
The first room is dedicated to the statue of the Virgin Mary of Svatá Hora and the Jesuit order. Here is a map of the activities of the Jesuits in individual periods. On the screen, you will find a presentation about the Jesuit order in Bohemia, created by PhDr. Věra Smolová from the State District Archive Příbram, who participated in the museum's design.
Important events
The subsequent room presents on screens a set of unique building plans from the 17th century and photographs capturing various events on Svatá Hora. In the middle of the room are set Baroque doors that were found during reconstruction and subsequently restored. You can symbolically walk through them into the Baroque era. Beyond the doors begins a timeline of history in Bohemia from the beginning of Christianity, along with events on Svatá Hora.
Garments of the Virgin Mary of Svatá Hora
If you pass through the next corridor, you will find yourself in the main part of the museum, which was originally planned by the Jesuits as a crypt but was never used as such. The museum also features the garments of the Virgin Mary of Svatá Hora, which relate both to the given periods and to the date of the exhibits beneath them. Thus, from the oldest preserved ones, to the modern camouflage one that resulted from a children's competition in 2012.
Archaeological finds
At the end of the room, drainage channels are uncovered, as well as the discovery of a child's grave, which is older than the Baroque complex in terms of dating and belonged to the cemetery around the original chapel. The situations mentioned above were archaeologically uncovered and left in their original found state.
Baroque furnace
The exhibition continues down the stairs to one of the wells, where you will find information related to the water supply of Svatá Hora. The museum tour ends at the base of the discovered Baroque furnace, where you can view its reconstructed state. Plates on which hosts and wafers were baked are displayed at the furnace.
