Music

Traditionally, art belongs to the church and to worship. As the old saying goes: "He who sings, prays twice." So accept the invitation to pray through the tones or "just" to participate in the musical concert in the Basilica of St. What kind of music can you hear at the Holy Mountain?

Music during the liturgy

Organ accompaniment for the liturgy is provided by two professional organists - choir director Pavel Šmolík and organist Ivana Kylarová with the help of local amateur organists. At the 11 am Sunday liturgy, choral music is performed on selected occasions for the liturgy by the St. Mary's Cathedral Choir, the Vepřek Mixed Choir, regular collaborating soloists, especially Katerina Falcníková, and guests.

One of the specifics of the liturgical events in the Basilica Minor is the public celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours. You can attend regular sung Czech Sunday Vespers in the Basilica. Their musical component was composed especially for this place of pilgrimage by Regenschori Pavel Šmolík, and so you will have a unique opportunity to sing praises to God in hymns that you probably will not find elsewhere.

You can always download the current hymnal for each liturgical season on the website of the Holy Mountain, the complete hymnal can be found at personal pages of the Regenschoir.

Other music

Among the main regular St. Hora musical events is the Organ Half Hour series, whose performers are fine organists, both national and international. Svatá Hora is also the venue for other cultural events, such as multi-day music and art courses. The first of these is the large organ from the workshop of Vladimír Šlajch from Borovo, which has been ringing out the basilica since 2018 during services, concerts and other cultural events, such as tours ending with a concert.

Another constant among the concerts in St. Mary's Cathedral has been the Advent series since 2022. The event aims to draw attention during the Advent season by performing Advent liturgical music to the difference between this period and Christmas, which does not begin until the eve of 25 December. For this reason, music in the true Advent style, such as the Advent cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and others, will be performed. Let's wait for the Christmas carols until the real Christmas season, when you can come and sing them together at the event Singing at the Manger.
